Fic: The Wonderland Subject (7/?)

CHAPTER SIX

“What are you doing?”

Xander paused with one pass out through the sleeve of his shirt and his head halfway through the neck excavation. He blinked at Buffy. She was standing in the doorway to his abide in the infirmary. It had been her room too, a week ago. She had her arms crossed and her Slayer countenance on. He pulled the shirt down over his head and said, “Getting dressed?”

“Nuh-uh,” she said. She crossed the cubicle quarters and gently pushed him back to a sitting class on the bed. Then she grabbed the bottom of his shirt and pulled it back over his intellect, leaving him in a plain white undershirt. She tossed it aside and then telling at his face. “You’re staying in bed until we find out what’s fiendish with you.”

“Nothing’s wrong with me.”

“I know! That’s what’s wrong with you!”

With a wry grin Xander said, “So you’re mad because there’s nothing misuse with me?”

“No! I’m mad because there’s something weird going on with you and you’re not taking it joking.”

“What do you want me to do, Buffy? Just sit around in bed when I fancy fine?”

Fine might have been an overstatement. Xander was tenderness much better than he had any right to, that much was true. His rind was fully healed and lacked any impetus of having blistered off. It no longer looked like there was a skeleton with pellicle staring back at him when he looked in the mirror. He was padding out very quickly. Buffy had told him he’d been even skinnier when she found him in the go over the hill payment. That was hard for him to believe, because when he’d woken up a few days ago he’d been skinnier than he could ever commemorate.

Three days later and he was looking almost customary. He was still on the gaunt side, but nothing like he’d been. He was recovering much more right away than he should have, gaining back muscles...
